What will it take to install an accelerator?
- Accelerator room (box). It serves as a platform for placing the accelerator and fulfils the function of radiation protection;
- Power supply with the necessary voltage and power parameters;
- Water cooling system;
- Ventilation system of the box.
A box is a room where the accelerator itself and the systems necessary for its operation are located. The figure shows an example of a box for ELV accelerators.

The mains parameters for the accelerator power supply should be as follows:
- Voltage value - 380 V;
- Number of phases - 3;
- Frequency - 50 Hz;
- Design with earthed neutral conductor (type TN-C-S according to IEC standards);
- Voltage deviation - not more than +5% - 10%;
- Power consumption - not more than 140 kW.
In special cases it is possible to design accelerating equipment for 60 Hz network.

The accelerator shall be cooled by

1) inlet water pressure - not more than 588 kPa (6 atm);
2) Inlet and outlet water pressure difference - 294 kPa (3 atm);
3) Inlet water temperature - not more than +25°C.

Cooling water parameters
- The box room should be equipped with supply and exhaust or only exhaust ventilation system to remove radiolysis products (ozone and nitrogen oxides) from the air. The capacity of the ventilation system shall ensure the air exchange rate in accordance with the sanitary regulations of the Buyer's country.
- The ventilation system pipelines and internal surfaces of exhaust fans shall be resistant to aggressive radiolysis products of the air.
